In this edition of Insight into Art, the art communicators at Kunsten delve into the exhibition Ovartaci – I Began as a Bird of Paradise. Prepare to gain deeper understanding of an artist who, over six decades, created a remarkable body of work under exceptional circumstances. We explore Ovartaci's imaginative universe filled with surreal narratives, demonic creatures, and women radiating vitality, longing, and connection. At the same time, we examine the themes that permeate the works – identity, freedom, spirituality, and the yearning to be accepted for who one truly is. You will also gain insight into how Ovartaci's art fits within both Danish and international art history through connections to movements such as Cobra and art brut. Insight into Art offers an excellent opportunity to engage deeply with the exhibition Ovartaci – I Began as a Bird of Paradise, on view at Kunsten from 8 September 2026 to 29 March 2027. No special prior knowledge of art is required to participate – just curiosity and a desire to learn more.
